Measuring Spoons With Fried Egg

Flex your creative prowess in this unique design challenge.

As designers, we're always looking for ways to flex our creative muscles, break free from the mundane, and craft messages that resonate deeply with audiences. One way we can expand our imaginative boundaries is by regularly participating in exercises outside our normal creative routine. If you’re up for the challenge, rebrand some business taglines that defy industry norms with us!

This exercise not only sharpens our skills but also helps us grow by thinking beyond our usual frameworks. Let’s dive into this creative business headline exercise together and brainstorm taglines for three hypothetical businesses, pushing the boundaries of their industries.

1. Joe’s Coffee Corner

Current Tagline: "The Best Coffee in Town"

Challenge: The coffee shop industry is saturated with similar messages. Let’s challenge the norm and create a tagline highlighting Joe’s unique value proposition.

Now it's your turn to brainstorm some ideas before reading further to see what we came up with…

Brainstorm:

  • "Awaken Your Senses"

  • "Brewed for Bold Moments"

  • "Where Coffee Meets Community"

Why This Works: These taglines go beyond just claiming to have the best coffee. They invite customers to experience something unique, whether it’s through an invigorating sensory experience, a bold new flavor, or a sense of community. They challenge the usual coffee shop narrative by focusing on the deeper connection and experience Joe’s offers.

2. Green Leaf Grocery

Current Tagline: "Your Neighborhood Grocery Store"

Challenge: Grocery stores often market convenience and freshness. Let’s break away from this and emphasize sustainability and innovation.

Now it's your turn to brainstorm some ideas before reading further to see what we came up with…

Brainstorm:

  • "Sustainable Shopping Starts Here"

  • "Future-Friendly Groceries"

  • "Eat Green, Live Well"

Why This Works: These taglines position Green Leaf Grocery as a leader in sustainability, appealing to environmentally conscious consumers. They challenge the traditional grocery store messaging by focusing on the store’s commitment to a greener future, thus appealing to a niche market that values sustainability.

3. Bella’s Boutique

Current Tagline: "Fashion for Everyone"

Challenge: The fashion industry often uses inclusive but vague messaging. Let’s create taglines that showcase Bella’s unique style and ethos.

Now it's your turn to brainstorm some ideas before reading further to see what we came up with…

Brainstorm:

  • "Curated Style, Unmatched Confidence"

  • "Wear Your Story"

  • "Bold Fashion for Bold Moves"

Why This Works: These taglines provide a sense of empowerment and individuality. They challenge the typical inclusive yet generic fashion messaging by emphasizing personal expression and confidence. They suggest that Bella’s Boutique offers more than clothes – it offers a way to express and empower oneself.

Now that you have the hang of it, how about you choose three brands in your local area and do the same exercise? By taking on this challenge, you're helping local businesses and pushing yourself to grow as a designer. Happy brainstorming!
